Alaska Cruise Line Reviews

The kind of ship you pick for yourself says something about your personality, just as does the kind of house you live in or car you drive.
Which one’s for you?
Different ships for different folks, and to give you some idea of which is which, I’ve put together a small sum up of the types of Alaska cruise lines you can find so that you can find the Alaska cruise lines and ships that best fit your tastes and those of your spouse or other cruise companions.
Mainstream cruises are the big boys of the cruise biz, with mostly giant ships offering the latest attractions designed to appeal to the widest variety of travelers. “Premium” lines are ginned-up main streamers, offering a more refined experience but without the super polish (or super-high prices) of the true luxury lines. Among the mainstream and premium lines, some ships tend to offer cruises geared more to families, party types, or romantic types, though you may be surprised at how many are able to offer all three. We use the description resort ships to refer to those that are just good all-around vessels with a range of activities and entertainment for everybody, though they may also appeal to families, partiers, and romantic types, too.
Luxury cruises are really luxurious, in other words, they walk the walk rather than just talking the talk. After all, almost every cruise line claims that they’re luxurious, while few really are. Those are the ones that stick to the highest standards: exceptional service, refined decor, luxurious accommodations, a sophisticated ambience, and truly fine cuisine. They also tend to sail more wide-ranging itineraries, rarely doing the kind of season-long round-trip cruises from the same home ports, the way mainstream ships do. That gives you a much wider range of destinations from which to choose. Another perk? Though their prices are higher, they also tend to be more inclusive than mainstream rates, often covering wines and spirits, gratuities, and sometimes some shore excursions.
There are a few adjectives we can think of to differentiate between the luxury lines. On old-money lines, very traditional passengers enjoy a very traditional experience. On active luxury lines, the focus may be on taking out a Waverunner or sailboard rather than on putting on the tux for evening cocktails. Family luxury lines attract a lot of younger couples who sometimes sail with their kids.
Adventure and educational cruises are your best bet if you’re after an experience that prizes in-depth learning about a destination’s nature and culture more than quick port calls and on board relaxation. These ships rarely carry more than 200 passengers, and usually have naturalists and historians aboard to interpret what you’re seeing. Within the small-ship world, most lines break down into one of three subcategories.
Learning cruises go full-throttle into the educational aspects of travel, with on board experts from leading nature publications offering lectures and helping with nature interpretation. Active adventure cruises also offer naturalists and historians, but focus more on getting passengers out into nature, programming kayaking, hiking, and trips by inflatable landing craft. Sailing ships are just that – ships with sails, some of them offering passengers the chance to help haul the lines and pull up the centerboard.

Essential Tips For Scoring The Best Cruise Deals
Looking for great cruise deals? Well you are in luck. Thanks to the recession, prices are plummeting and there is no better time than now to get cruising. In the past, purchasing a cruise generally involved visiting a travel agent, leafing through a few brochures, and booking a trip. Nowadays, due to the growth of the industry, there are a lot more packages and offers to weed through in order to find the best bargains. Here are some essential tips for scoring the best discounts.
Find a Good Travel Agent
A travel agent can help you stay on top of the latest deals and keep track of price drops. A good travel agent can also advise you on whether or not it is worthwhile to purchase a package or opt for separate airfare. Rely on the expertise of a travel agent to help you determine which deals are good and which deals are too good to be true.
Timing is Everything
You can typically get the best deals when you book around six months in advance but of course last-minute deals are also available. Booking a cruise during shoulder season can save you around 20 to 30 percent off the typical rate. However, you can also find great deals during the ‘wave period’ which falls between January and March. The wave period is the busiest period for Caribbean cruise lines and sometimes there are hot bargains to be had.
Call the Cruise Line
Call the company directly before booking to find out if they are offering any specials. Sometimes when you find discounts online they are actually not as good as what you can get when you book directly with the company. You may be able to get additional discounts if you have ridden the cruise line before, you fall in a certain age group, or you are traveling with a group. The price quote you receive from a cruise line should be the starting point for your bargain hunting efforts.
Stay Close to Home
To avoid paying airfare and dealing with the hassle of flying, select cruises departing from ports close to your hometown. You can save yourself a lot of money and trouble by doing so. An increasing number of cruise lines are expanding operations so find out whether there are ships departing from ports near you.
Compare Prices Online
Find a website catering to travel deals that regularly publishes the best 1000 bargains found all over the web. Subscribing to updates provided by such a website will allow you to stay informed about the best cruise deals without having to visit every travel deals site out there.
Check the Sunday Paper
Sunday papers in large metropolitan areas, particularly in cruise embarkation cities, often publish ads featuring great bargains. Check the online edition of the newspaper if you aren’t a subscriber or head to the local library to check out the latest Sunday edition.
Negotiate with Travel Agents or the Cruise Line
After you’ve done some comparison shopping, try to negotiate lower prices on the quotes you have received. Many times a travel agent will try hard to beat the lowest quote you have gotten. If you aren’t able to negotiate a lower price, try negotiating onboard extras instead.

Which Weather Is The Best For Caribbean Cruise?

Which Weather Is The Best For Caribbean Cruise?
Everyone looks for weather when it comes to cruising especially for Caribbean cruise. Generally, the weather of Caribbean stays 75- 85 degrees almost every year. As it happens to all places, the weather of Caribbean also goes ups and downs according to time.
Evidently the hurricane season is the main down time of the Caribbean and it comes in the month of July from the beginning and stays till the starting of December. But, the most active hurricane comes in the month of August and stays till September. However, there is hardly any change in the Caribbean weather temperature even during this time. Generally, during this span, lots of cruise companies give discount or reduce the rates of the tickets. So, one should not worry about these hurricanes, because cruises are able to evade these hurricanes before facing them. Even sometimes cruise ships overrun the hurricanes. And when it comes to summer season, the Caribbean is the most humid place for cruising.
By and large, from northern Caribbean islands to the southern Caribbean islands, there is moderate variation in the temperature. Due to their latitude, there is less chance of major hurricanes and tropical storms in the southern islands. The weather of Caribbean is moderated by the ever-coming trade winds.
But, on the other hand, the month of Christmas and New years are the peak times for the cruise lines. usually a number of people love to take a cruise in these seasons. Because of the shortage of seats, people book their tickets in advance as well. No doubt, a number of people take on a cruise in the month of Christmas and New Year, but the months from January to April are also the peak time for cruise lines. A number of cruise lines position their more ships for Caribbean in these peak times.
So, one can enjoy Caribbean cruise with the unpredictable nature and should not worry about the hurricanes, because it all depends upon cruise lines. The plus point of these hurricane month is that cruise lines reduce their rate, by which one can get cheaper tickets in comparison to other months. On the other hand, in the month of spring and winter cruise lines offer more options, a bit higher rates and higher traffic too. Nevertheless, if one tries whole heartedly, there are discount cruises available for them for all the times.
